| MarketplaceCheese And Crackers Skate VideoPosted on February 10, 2010. Childhood Obesity-getting your kids on the couch In today's society, childhood obesity has become a growing concern. In this era of fast food dinners and video games your child can eat foods that are high in fat, calories, and then sitting on the couch for hours playing video games. It may be time to get your child moving and exercise. There are several steps you can take to help your child to live a healthier lifestyle.
The first thing you should do is teach your child to eat more healthily. In the world of working mothers and families with two incomes, it may seem that fast food is the best way to feed everyone. In reality, there are many healthy meals that can take the same amount of time preparing what you need to drive to the restaurant, sitting in the drive-thru line for your food, and return home. There are also foods that can be fixed the day before and placed in the crock pot first thing in the morning. The cooks food all day and she is ready as soon as you get home from work. There are many foods in the microwave also available at the grocery store. Another advantage of having a microwave oven is the ability to defrost foods quickly if you forgot to get something for dinner.
To create a healthy meal, you should have a meat, vegetable, bread, dairy, and fruit. While this may seem complicated, a plate of spaghetti with parmesan, salad, bread and a can of peaches with a glass of milk would cover all these groups and will take about fifteen minutes to repair. Another way to help your children to eat healthily is to remove all junk food in your house and replace it with healthy snacks. Replace a bag of potato chips with cheese and crackers. Replace cheese curls with celery sticks smeared with peanut butter. Children may complain of losing their first favorite snacks, but once there is nothing else in the house, they will eventually eat the healthier alternatives.
The next step to help your kids become healthier, is to move. The first thing you should do is limit the amount of time spent watching television. The same should be done with the computer and video games. Once children have more television and games to occupy their time, they get bored. You can now suggest you all go out for a walk or a ride on a bicycle. If it's cold outside, you could suggest sledding or ice skating. Anything that will give your children some fresh air and exercise would be a good idea.
Children learn good eating habits and exercise of their parents. You must be a model for your kids to eat right and stay active. By including the entire family at this outdoor event will give everyone a certain amount of exercise required and it is also an opportunity to spend some quality time with your children, something we could all use a little more .
