Pistachio nuts are ideal for any Gourmet Trail Mix I think "Trail Mix" is a name far more attractive than "Gorp. Gorp is a term that has been used since the early 20th century and it refers to granola, oats, raisins and peanuts. Whatever name you use, it is a delicious blend of nutritious nuts, dried fruit, seeds, berries, and candy. This snack goes back to antiquity, when nomads do not eat a mixture containing dried meat, as well. Easy to store and transport, this blend is ideal for people who want something to eat while enjoying the outdoors or for those looking for a light meal and healthy. This mixture is called "Scroggins" in New Zealand and Australia, which makes the term "Trail Mix" even more appealing.
When I hear the term "Trail Mix" I think the pioneers blazing a trail with their horses and wagons, snacks, seeds and nuts along the way. According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, Harmony Food Company California was the first to invent the term in 1968, when he presented his "Original Trail Mix.
However, he got his name is a trail mix snack popular, more recently made available in vending machines for those who need a quick pick-me-up. For people such as hikers, bikers, and hunters who enjoy outdoor activities, trail mix has long been a source of energy. There are a variety of trail mix recipes. Peanuts, raisins and chocolate chips are just some of the most commonly used and most economical ingredients.
I concoct my own trail mix recipes. Pistachios are one of my favorites and I came in a large company which produces a trail mix with a combination of pistachios, dried cranberries, chocolate chips Dutch, and white chocolate chunks. issues Unfortunately, due to shipping, this is only available during the cold periods of the year, so I buy a lot when they are available. When I run out of them, I just do my own! "I get high quality, shelled pistachios and include them in a mixture of dried banana chips, chocolate covered coffee beans and some of my other personal favorites. Pistachios are high in nutrients, including fiber, protein, antioxidants, vitamin B6, and good fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats have cholesterol lowering properties. The banana chips provide potassium and other vitamins, while the dark chocolate provides antioxidants and coffee beans to provide a jolt of caffeine.
Some people believe that pistachios should not be included in a trail mix because they are so expensive. I beg to differ. I always buy in quantity and this results in a lower cost per pound. In addition, trail mix can take the place of a meal if you are traveling or do not have enough time to take a seated meal. There is no comparison between the trail mix and the normal fast food meal that provides little nutritional value, but a lot of fat.
