Heart Healthy Snacks

Posted on February 10, 2010.
Heart Healthy SnacksWhat are healthy snacks heart for a former junk food junkie?

Just had an angioplasty and two stents put in. I have to eat healthily, after a lifetime of eating the wrong things. Would like some ideas for snacks between meals.

Great You are now on the illuminated side!

fruits and vegetables. snacks: apples, bananas, grapes, sitcks carrot, celery & dip healthy (eg, Guacamole / Hummus, beware of those business prepared, it can be high in sodium, is the best to make your own, take only 2 minutes with the food processor).

Snack milk: low fat cheese (no more than 50g), low-fat yogurt

Nuts: Almonds and walnuts are known to be beneficial for the heart, the part: no more than a handful per day. fill with dried fruit (syrup uncoated). Choose nuts that are roasted and salted. (Temperature change qality oil nuts beneficiaries). Peanut butter (a tablespoon table no more than 2 / day), choose the type that has no trans fats and salt, Suger added.

carb: high fiber tortilla chips (violet has more fiber), with a healthy dip

Chocolate: at least more than 70% cocoa, so it is only good for health, otherwise it is always bad for you. limit of 15-20g

You can start by shopping in supermarkets organic pastry, and you learned by getting some nutrition books from your local library. Very soon, you'll know what to buy and especially What not to buy in your local supermarket.

I get most of my orders from the supermarket Reqular, but some things you just have to get from one organic.

The path to healthy eating is sometimes long, sometimes you give something you love, and finally, your may find more than you as "bad" things. Good luck!

Some of my favorites:
1. Almonds - Nice and plain on the right of the hull
2. carrots - especially when dipped in the house made hummus. Hummus is surprisingly easy to do and you can add any flavors you want.
3. artificial crab meat salads / sandwiches
4. Tuna
5. Chicken Breast Strips
6. A cup of Smart Start cereal (just without milk)
7. Peanut butter - sometimes I'll crush / mix the cereal with peanut butter. also great on celery sticks

Hi there I use protein bars / nuts / soup and protein drinks Herbalife, they are great. Full of protein and rich in vitamins etc and they kill your hunger to go to anyhting bad. You can take them into work or anywhere. myhealthabcmall.com try, you love them.

Instead of chips or pretzels, eat your favorite type of nut. They are high in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, which increase your "good" cholesterol while lowering "bad" cholesterol. Fruits and vegetables are always good, and is nuts, because nuts are rich in dietary fiber, which also helps to bring the "wrong numbers" low cholesterol. Friendly piece of advice: Do not deprive themselves completely from all the bad "for you" things that you like, just to eat the exception rather than the rule. PS: The chocolate is a good thing for you in small doses, so you can take a bag attached to miniature Hershey's and a couple for dessert every once in awhile. MAP: Yogurt is good for you, but avoid like the plague yogurt - you're better off with the shovel at the low-fat ice cream.
