Mountain House Dehydrated Food

Posted on February 20, 2010.
Mountain House Dehydrated FoodProfitable camping / hiking food?

I need some suggestions for the camping / hiking food.

It must cover some of these points:

-Relatively cheap - compared to freeze-dry all food / camping (such as Mountain House)
Leger - dehydrated, add water as food type, etc.
High-energy / calories
Health food dyes - not too artificial preservatives / compounds, saturated fat etc.
-Can be found in large supermarkets such as ASDA, Tesco, etc.
Can be stored in a bag on his back in summer conditions - ie not explode / rot / crush easily

So far, I discovered that the peanut butter and pancakes are a good food for energy winding.

Instant dried meals such as the brand "Batchelors" seems ok, but contain MSG and other flavor enhancers.

I have several boxes of emergency rations standard seven seas, but they are quite heavy and boring in the taste of regular use.

Trailmix you will maintain constant energy levels and keep hunger away for a while. I usually fill a gallon zip lock bag one last weekend. I want to begin by life or wheat cereal thins then add almonds, cashews and raisins and a small bag of mixed dried fruit. Its rich in calories, carbohydrates and protein to keep you going.

Regarding dry foods stick with rice and pasta, "art as Uncle Ben Rice` s or for rice flavored and Roni are all you need is boiling water. They are light and tasteful. You can also just boil water for pasta `s and add a little oil and garlic and spices you want. Ramen noodles are so compact and lightweight.

You mentioned the peanut butter .. you should try is the envelope, they `re thin and light. Unlike regular bread he used to get crushed. You can put PB on the film, then put some hot cocoa powder and sprinkle a little rice cereal Krispy on it. It tastes just like a Reese `s Cup peanutbutter.

Macaroni and cheese with hot dogs cut into it.

I am looking Lipton noodle bags that do not require milk. They also have too much rice but I did not really care for rice. I'm with you on the MSG thing. It gives me the trots and it is something that you do not want on the track. Campmor costumes and other camper has all kinds of dehydrated foods as I am sure you are well aware. That's why your question first, because they can really add up $! As mentioned earlier, the idea of using dehydrating myself. There are several versions on the market. I suppose in the long term it could be profitable if you use it a lot, but usually these things just tend to be collectors of dust in the average household. I think you ask an excellent question and I'll keep an eye on him.
Happy trails!

Here is my dinner menu from my trip last three-day last month. All this was bought in the local IGA Supermarket.

Day 1: Spaghetti and marinara sauce with mushrooms, Parmesan cheese. Sauce came in a pocket. Cooked pasta and sauce added after water tight. Put the cooked and stirred for one minute to warm the sauce.

Day 2: shrimp and oriental noodles. Took two bricks or Ramen. One was an Oriental flavor and the other was shrimp flavor. Boil for 2 minutes, add 1 can of cooked shrimp. Added Ramen flavor packs and some curry, garlic and pepper.

Day 3: Louisiana Chicken and rice: a bag of brand Riso black beans and rice. Cooked up, added a box of chicken pieces, mix, add spices .. Cayenne, black, and red pepper with garlic and salt. Yummy!

None of this was easy quickie lyophilized things. I had to cook. You need a stove with a flame variable (or some way to cook food.)

Also we had a bit of peanut butter and maple syrup to mix and spead on crackers. (Fat, sugar and starch .. woo-hoo) We had some granola BearNaked (ove.
