Ocean Spray Craisins

Posted on February 20, 2010.
Ocean Spray CraisinsI like Craisins - dried, sweetened cranberries by Ocean Spray made - but they are so expensive!?

I like them on my porridge and want to dry some while costs are in the stores. I have a conventional oven. Does anybody know how I could do? Thank you.

How to dry cranberries
Servings: About 3 / 4 cup [190 mL]

Ingredients
1 [10 1/2-ounce /] 300-g pack or frozen cranberries
1 [12 oz / bag] 375-g fresh or frozen whole cranberries
2 / 3 cup [160 mL of water]
1 / 2 cup [125 ml sugar]
Preparation
With scissors or a paring knife, half of the semi frozen cranberries, length - let thaw completely - dry paper towel.
In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
Boil for 2 minutes, remove from heat and add the cranberries and let stand for 1 hour or more overnight.
Transfer cranberries in a colander and let drain, reserving the syrup.
Spread the cranberries in a single layer on a parchment paper lined baking.
Transfer to an oven preheated to 175 ° F [80 ° C] oven for 1 hour.
Sprinkle 1 / 4-1 / 3 cup [60 to 80 mL] of [using the reserved syrup remaining syrup to flavor drinks].
Cranberries Return to oven - leave to dry for 2 to 2 1 / 2 hours more, until wrinkled and soft.
Place the cranberries in a single layer on a clean sheet of parchment paper placed on a baking sheet.
Let stand in a cool place for two days, until dry, soft, fluffy and no longer sticky.
Cranberry transfer in a glass jar and refrigerate or transfer to a plastic bag and freeze.

I do not think you'll be happy with the results to dry yourself. I tried drying fruit and it's really an embarrassment. If you really want to try this, check your local thrift shops, flea markets and garage sales for dehydrating racks. I see them all the time on the cheap.

I have a bag of Craisins MONSTER I had to Costo, so try your local discount store. I do not remember how it was, but as usual the big discounters, they were probably not much.

If you like cranberries, you can also try dried cherries as Montemarcies if you can find them. I purchased at my local trader joes and like them even better than I like Craisins. If you are lucky enough to have a trader joes in your area, they are also dried cranberries with orange flavor added that are fabulous.

Best wishes!

Dried cranberries
1 -12 ounce bag cranberries
2 quarts boiling water
1 / 4 cup sugar or corn syrup

Itinerary:
Dip cranberries in a saucepan of boiling water with heat off. When skins pop, drain water. If desired coating of light corn syrup or granulated sugar.Transfer a cookie sheet and place in freezer for two hours. Freezing the berries helps in breaking the cell structure promoting faster drying.Turn oven at 350 for 10 minutes then stop it off.Place cranberries in the oven overnight. Store in freezer.

Btw thank you for asking this question. watched this recipe for you, so I never tried it.I will try it now, and I love children though. The dried cranberries. This would be a nice gift in a jar with a pretty ribbon, a decorative box or displayed!

And I like Craisins and buy at Costco. They have a large bag at a reasonable price.
