Potato Chip Diet

Potato Chip DietIf you are what you eat, I'm a Super Sized bag of chips

We've probably all heard that you are what you eat. It is true. It is quite difficult for your body to keep you healthy and running in excellent condition if you do not give it the nutrients it needs. If you do not take care of your vehicle, it does not work very well and will eventually leave you stranded on the side of the road. It's the same with your body. If the only thing you give is junk food like potato chips, soft drinks, sweets and fast food, it does not take long for your body to get slow.

I used to be a regular at McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, and several other fast food places. I also considered the chips and other salty snack food group a major daily. And a meal of mine has never been complete without at least a large serving of dessert. Soft drinks have been my only source of hydration. Fruits and vegetables have been something I avoided.

I paid the price for my bad eating habits. I gained weight and my health compromised. I am now pre-diabetic and had blood pressure that was beginning to mount. But I opened my eyes and realized that every bite of food that was bad for me I was only hurting me.

I wish I could say I made a complete turnaround, and now that eating healthy foods all the time. I did not because for me, all foods that taste best are those that are the worst for me. I only half jokingly tell people that I wish there was a pill I could take that would make the taste of fresh vegetables such as potato chips and fresh fruit taste like candy. Then I want to eat them all day! My problem is that I got my taste buds accustomed to this type of food.

But none of us who put ourselves practically addicted to all foods bad taste delicious, but can change things for ourselves. I do. For me, the key is to make the changes slowly, so I stay with them. And it works. Every week I add more fruits and vegetables in my diet. To make them eat more easily, I keep the vegetables fresh cut and hand at all times.

Because I still do not like the taste of water, add Crystal Light to it or purchase one of many low-cal flavored waters to help me. I also pour water on the ice to make it really cold and drink through a straw. For me, it makes it taste better and is more fun to drink this way.

Avoid salty and crunchy chips is the most difficult for me so I did not buy the big bags more. I only buy single serving bags for when I need them because I'll eat the whole bag regardless of the size it is. To help those salty crunchy cravings and keep me whole grain crackers on hand so I slice of peanut butter or cheese, nuts and also keep in my closet. There are few pieces of really interesting and flavorful available. I love pistachios and am able to find garlic, chili, and chili-lime flavors. The kernels are very tasty and very nutritious too. Blue Diamond Smoked Almonds were my favorite until a few weeks ago when my store started carrying some new flavors. Their barbecue lime and chili, onion and garlic and almonds are all remarkable. They help me to have cravings very few chips.

If you feel like you are a super size bag of chips rather than a beautiful machine that is listening all the nutrients, do not despair. You can make changes and get healthier. Replace junk food choices, one at a time, with more healthy. You can soon you want foods that are good for you. I am.
